Principles and Ideologies are Confined to Books and Speeches! Power is the Only Goal.
The contemporary parliamentary politics of Eelam Tamils stands as a stark monument to ideological paralysis and structural decay. Following the collapse of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), the ongoing factional wars within the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), the Tamil National People's Front (TNPF), and various peripheral coalitions unmask an unprincipled thirst for institutional survival. From a Marxist and Dravidian anti-oppression perspective, the liberation of a nation must organically synthesize territorial rights with the socio-economic emancipation of its working class. However, contemporary Tamil parliamentarians remain willfully blind to the aggressive neoliberal, corporate economic violence unfolding in the North and East. This is evident in how multinational corporate shrimp farming projects are actively decimating the traditional livelihoods of marginalized fishers in Mannar and Mullaitivu, alongside the systematic strangulation of local production in Myliddy and Karainagar. Instead of resisting this capitalist subjugation, Tamil political elites have normalized a culture of consumerist compliance, covertly backing Colombo's national budgets in exchange for luxury vehicle permits and decentralized budget allocations. Noble concepts like 'Self-determination' and 'Homeland' are weaponized purely as electoral commodities to extract votes through emotional manipulation, while the essential task of fostering constitutional literacy and class consciousness among the masses remains completely abandoned.
The decline of the current Eelam Tamil leadership is not marked by electoral defeats, but by its deep intellectual bankruptcy and its absolute subservience to regional geopolitical actors. The chronic fragmentation of political fronts and the sudden dissolution of alliances do not stem from ideological divergences; rather, they are the direct consequences of petty, ego-driven rivalries over parliamentary representation, seat allocation, and party hierarchy. There is a total absence of a strategic, theoretically sound blueprint to mobilize a mass resistance against the state's structural genocide, militarized land grabs, and institutionalized Sinhalization disguised as archaeological or forest conservation. Instead, caught within the crossfire of the Indo-China geopolitical rivalry in the Indian Ocean, these leaders chose to appeasing New Delhi's strategic interests in exchange for personal political survival and external patronage. By reducing a traumatized population to mere periodic vote banks, this title-obsessed leadership has severely weakened the collective bargaining leverage of the Tamil nation on the global stage. When principles are confined strictly to textbooks while raw power remains the sole operational objective, the polity is driven into permanent subjugation. The urgent historical imperative is to dismantle this elite-driven, collaborator political culture and realign political theory with ground-level existential and anti-corporate struggles, transforming passive voters into an active, ideologically conscious mass movement for genuine self-determination.
